For a wildlife lover and author who moved to Missoula Montana from North Carolina, the bison became an awesome presence early on as a symbol of wild America. I had to write about it!
So true, Jon--but I guess these guys knew the routine since it had happened before. And maybe the fence was specially reinforced. In any case, Bill and I didn't get trampled!!
The Bison Range is one of my favorite places to visit in the springtime. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recollections. And the San Juans - a to-die for place to do graduate research!
Thans for your comment, Wendy. One time of year we especially enjoy the Bison Range is in June/july whenever the bitterroots are in bloom. The one trail you're allowed to walk on can have lots and lots of them. And being at Friday Harbor was a joy!
Thanks, Dianne--yes the raccoons were so much fun! I loved watching one of them when he was completely stuffed with grapes; he'd pick another one up, roll it lovingly around in his hands, and reluctantly put it back down.
Very exciting, Dorothy. Buffalos could destroy a corral if you stampeded them into it! More tales!

Dorothy: Thanks for putting me on your newsletter list. I love hearing all your experiences with wildlife.
Tanks Gretchen--and there's lots more to come!
I enjoy sharing my "adventures;" I realized that I had so many interesting stories to tell that didn't get told in my books.
I loved the story about the raccoons. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Greg! ❤️
